July Cover Revealed: Darksiders II

THQ hinted at the sequel to Vigil Game’s breakout hit almost immediately after the success of the first title, but we knew little about Darksiders II until now.

Fans of the first Darksiders are already familiar with Vigil’s fiction – the eternal war that rages between the forces of Heaven and Hell. With Darksiders II, Vigil looks to deliver a richer experience as players  explore more dungeons, talk with a variety of NPCs, and experiment with a detailed loot system. The horseman War has been sidelined, so it’s up to his brother, Death, to travel through the world of the Abyss and attempt to restore humanity after its destruction during the Apocalypse.

Subscribers should be receiving their issues after the first day of E3. After you finish reading our cover story, keep checking back with our Darksiders II hub throughout the month, since we'll have plenty of updates that delve deeper into the experience Vigil is crafting for Darksiders II.

In addition to our 10-page cover story on Darksiders II, the July issue of Game Informer includes an in-depth first look at Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII-2, our hands-on impressions of Sony’s NGP hardware and its early games, and an extensive preview section featuring games like BioShock Infinite, Mass Effect 3, and Batman: Arkham City.

Until you get a copy for yourself, drool over these images of our cover, drawn by comic book luminary Joe Madureira, or watch the exclusive first trailer for Darksiders II.

  • Sick! I had no idea this was even in development! I absolutely loved Darksiders and the cliffhanger ending had me craving more. Super pumped for this one, guys.
  • that is one beautiful cover! *** i wish i could get that here in germany...
  • Mmm, makes me wish I actually got my subscription (long story..) maybe I will go pick this one up at the news stand. The cover art is excellent, really sells the vibe, and I wanna check out the cover story, NGP and FF XIII-2 stories, wouldn't feel bad about reading up on Bioshock Infinite either.

  • Looks like I will have to play the first one, never got around to it i guess
  • Bout *** time!
  • excellent news!  i loved the first one more than i would thought.

  • Sweet cover! I need to go back and play the first.

  • I never played the original Darksiders before. I have OnLive, though. I'm going to go give the trial a try and see if I should be excited for this month's issue or not.
  • Awesome! been waiting for a sequel to this game.

  • I have been waiting for this game since the moment I put Darksiders in my Xbox. I think this particular cover art has to be the best I have seen on your magazine so far.
  • Very unexpected but I like it. Darksiders to me was very underrated and to see a sequel actually makes me a little happy.

  • Sweet! Just bought the first one a few days ago because I knew this was going to be the cover. Great artwork and I can't wait to get this issue!

  • I love you GI=) What a great birthday present just for me. Darksiders was for sure of my favorite titles of 2010, yet everyone stopped talking about that game.

Just beat the first again and was wanting to hear more about a sequel. So I wonder if there will be coop, because at the end of the first the other 3 horsemen are flying towards Earth. Maybe the other 2 are still getting passports...
  • Most dull and generic cover in a long time, unfortunately I can't say different for the subject, either.
  • oh my god thats the best news i heard all week

  • Very nice. I really enjoyed the first game (very underrated) so I've been pretty excited to see how the sequel fairs.

  • Very impressive! :)

  • I actually had a lot of fun with the first game (even though I don't love the Gear-esque bulkiness of main character design); I think it might have shined a little less after playing the similar Castlevania mash-up, but I await the sequel and the continuation of the story. Actually, I kinda like the generally brighter palate of Darksiders' graphics better than that in Castlevania- in terms of graphics.

Also, although I didn't like some of the design/characterization of War, there were a lot of cool characters in the supporting cast (like the Hammer).

Looking at the cover, I'm digging the dual-wield scythes, that was one of the more enjoyable weapons of War's, and if one's good...
Also I hope that the raven is Death's familiar (kinda like the Leash guy voiced by Mark Hamill in numero uno).
  • Woooooooooooowwwww. I never even played the first Darksiders, and I think this looks amazing.
  • I'm really liking the Gameinformer logo on the magazine.
