The lights are on
We heard earlier today that BioWare's Mass Effect 3 has been pushed back to a 2012 release date. Now EA has warned that the same fate could befall BioWare's other hotly anticipated title, the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Kotaku reports that during EA's investor call today the publisher admitted to an "outside possibility" that Old Republic will not be launched this year. Even in the event that this ends up being the case, EA still plans to release the game before the end of its current fiscal year, which means it would arrive in March 2012 at the latest.
EA games label president Frank Gibeau said the publisher still "fully anticipate[s]" Old Republic arriving in the second or third quarter of this fiscal year, making a late fall or early winter release most likely. Gibeau stated that they aren't ready to provide a specific release date because they want to gather data from the beta.
We'll hopefully have a better sense of how far along Old Republic is coming out of E3, so stay tuned.
Well, I can understand why they'd want to push it back if they need time. But then MMOs are never really finished. I'm sure they don't want a flop like FFXIV, but that happened mostly because the core design of the game was horrible, not necessarily because it wasn't finished or had bugs.
With Dragon Age 2 being absolutely atrocious, I'd like Bioware to take all the time they need on games.
I have been following TOR closely for a long time now, and I always predicted that it was going to be released in Q1 of 2012. While it is upsetting, I tend to agree with everyone else -- I don't want to have to choose between this and Skyrim.
I want KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC!!!
I always thought it was releasing next year.....
Seriously? Don't get me wrong, I want them to do what they need to in order to make this the best game possible, but come on. They have been in the closed beta for a while now, and thousands of people got to play the Taral V Flashpoint at Pax East. If the game is that far along, does it really need to be delayed?
WHAT you mean you are gonna make me play me2 again while waiting for me3 because you pushed it back!!!!!!!!
Fine with me! :D
Well im a little disappointed by this but as long as it becomes a great game that is well polished i wont mind waiting for it. That is not really all that long of a wait though i mean we are already 5 months into this year. They said they are still expecting it to release towards the end of this year so i will keep my hopes up for this game yet.
I'm really excited for this game, but I don't mind it being delayed. I'm still playing WoW, another subscription based game would probably bleed me dry.
while I don't want that, that seems like it's taking forever to come
Pity that it could slip to 2012.
As long as they keep making those amazing CG trailers for E3 I don't care. It's not like I have the computer or internet speed to play it anyways.
I don't see how Star-WoW could be coming out this year. Most MMO fans have thought that this would be a 2012 release. With the hopeful release of Guild Wars 2 this fall, that would nerf some of the sales. Best let the developers actually finish their product for release. We most certainly do not want another lackluster EA/Bioware release (Dragon Age 2, I'm looking at you)
Well here is an idea for EA. Chill out and not push Bioware. Really I rather have a great game and not too buggy come late than an okay and bugged out game if they try to rush. Does everyone agree with this?
It would give me more time to play Battlefield 3 and Skyrim :)
I wanna get a kick ass PC just to play this game.
is it just me or does the HUD look like the galaxies screen?
