Portal Sold Nearly Four Million Copies

by Jeff Cork on Apr 20, 2011 at 04:43 AM

Valve's game Portal was a smash hit culturally, spawning a catchphrase and a memorable song. As it turns out, it wasn't a slouch in the sales department, either. According to Valve, the game sold nearly four million copies through its inclusion in the Orange Box collection and the Xbox 360 download Portal: Still Alive. That number is even more impressive when you realize it doesn't include sales through Valve's own Steam service.

The game began its life as a student project at DigiPen called Narbacular Drop. For more on its beginnings, check out our video feature including interviews with that early team. And for more information on the newly released Portal 2, visit our hub, which has information on the series' origin and much more.
