Runic Smitten With XBLA Torchlight Sales

by Jeff Marchiafava on Mar 15, 2011 at 11:27 AM

Who says console gamers don't enjoy a good dungeon crawler? Today Runic Games announced that the XBLA version of Torchlight has resulted in the "highest sales day ever" for the game, and that sales are currently outpacing the PC and Mac versions.

Runic did not provide any actual sales numbers for the XBLA version of Torchlight, but has previously stated that the PC version sold at least 750,000 copies. The XBLA version has been on sale for less than a week and already has 74,000 users on the leaderboards, according to Gamasutra. It will be interesting to see if sales will keep pace once the Torchlight ads disappear from the Xbox Live dashboard, but so far Runic is pleased.

"We're very excited to bring Torchlight to the 360, and have been really gratified by the positive reaction. It's affirming to know that console players love this genre as much as we do. We think the experience translates pretty well to the couch," said Runic president Travis Baldree. Hopefully the company's happiness means that the upcoming, co-op enabled Torchlight II will also make its way to XBLA? Please?

As a gamer who has never played either of the Diablos, I am currently loving and addicted to the XBLA version of Torchlight. But if you're a little more knowledgeable with the genre and would like an expert opinion, be sure to check out Adam's review.
