UPDATE: We Dare Canceled In U.K., Online Ads Banned

by Matthew Kato on Mar 11, 2011 at 05:00 AM

UPDATE: European ratings board PEGI has told Ubisoft that it can't air ads for We Dare (check out the trailer here) or face fines. PEGI has deemed the ads for the game as misleading.

Eurogamer is reporting that the company will face fines if all its online ads aren't taken down in three days.

Here's the official statement from PEGI on the matter: "The Committee concludes that the advertisement does NOT accurately reflect the nature and content of the product and it MISLEADS consumers as to its true nature. Consequently, the Committee considers imperative as a first measure that the advertisement for the game which was made available online should be taken down immediately. If this is not done within three working days of this decision this Committee will consider further immediate sanctions against the publisher.

ORIGINAL STORY: Ubisoft has canceled the strange, sexual innuendo-filled Wii game We Dare in the U.K. The game isn't coming out in America, although Europe will apparently still get the title.

Ever since the initial trailer debuted for the game, everybody has been wondering if Ubisoft was crazy for coming up with the game in the first place. Then the madness overtook England's Video Standards Council, which gave the game a 12+ rating. Now, Ubisoft has pulled the plug altogether on the game which has drawn controversy for its suggestive content.

Will We Dare's U.K. banning lead to ferry-loads of randy teens hopping across the channel to raid gaming stores on the Continent, or will everyone just be embarrassed for Ubisoft and try to pretend that this whole disaster never happened?
