Dead Space Movie Could Happen, Won't Be 'Cheap Cash-In'

Do you enjoy the world and story of Dead Space and its newly-released sequel, despite some of its weirdness? Well, I've got potentially good news for you. It sounds like the team behind the game is very seriously looking at possibilities for a live-action film based off of the horror game, and they want to make sure it's done right.

Dead Space art director and co-creator Ian Milham explained the studio's measured attitude toward a potential film adaptation of the series to BBC:

"We would love to have a live action film and we've had a lot of discussion. But one of the reasons Dead Space still exists and is popular is because we've made sure to do everything right. So we're doing the same with the film, not just a cheap cash-in but to do something really worthwhile, so we'll see."

I'm glad that they are seemingly being very careful in how they grow the franchise, although saying they've "made sure to do everything right" may be a bit of a stretch.

  • This could be pretty cool. Like, Aliens vs. Predators type of thing.
  • Not so sure how I would like a Dead Space film. I just wouldn't want a live action movie to tarnish the already superb video game franchise.
  • i dont know. they have killed other series by trying to make movies of them

  • The two animated movies were good, but I hope if there is a movie they either do a faithful adaptation or a completely separate story in the same universe.

  • If they put Brad Pitt in it, I will vomit.
  • It could be really cool, but I'm sure it's a long way off.

  • Y'know, I bet they could make a film. It just has to be done right. I AM SO FREAKIN HYPED NOW.

  • If it's made right it will be awesome!

  • If a Dead Space film gets done "right" I will be one happy camper.

  • YES!!!!! if this goes well we could see more movies based on the games we all know and love...a gamer can hope though,a gamer can hope

  • For the love of god please make the movie GOOD! I hate it when a movie based off a (good) video game comes out, the movie sucks, and people are like "Wtf?! The movie sucks, the game must too." Just one more thing that I hate about Hollywood.
  • I feel like we'd have a lot more not-terrible video game movies if the developers were actually involved in the production. I haven't done my research, but I doubt the developers of BloodRayne worked closely with Dr. Boll.

  • A Dead Space movie would rock...But I have a hard time trusting writers nowadays, for obvious reasons(Most game adaptions do indeed suck). Hopefully that will change as our generation progresses. As long as they take the writing process VERY serious, it could very well be successful. Is anyone else thinking Sam Raimi would be the perfect director for this? He has a "Vision" when it comes to directing movies like this. I think he's VERY creative with "Jump" scare scenes and has his own unique way of building suspense. He would also have a reason to make a scary film and Dead Space does have a sense of humor lol in a gruesome kind of way haha
  • I can't wait to see what they do. This is one of my favorite video game franchises:)

  • Well it may be better than the Uncharted film and Mortal Kombat web series. Let's hope it does well!
  • I'm sorry, someone explain to me why people make movies out of video games again?
  • As long as Uwe Boll isn't involved...
  • It'll just be an expensive cash in! Heyoo! But seriously, the other movies did a fine enough job, even though I wasn't a fan of the art style. I don't see why you wouldn't just make a movie with the game engine.
  • Sam Worthington should play Isaac
  • This could be awesome.
