Mortal Kombat Web Series Officially Unveiled

While rumors began circulating earlier this month, Warner made official today its plans to develop a live action Mortal Kombat digital series.

Most details from the initial report remain the same. The series will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame), who is responsible for the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short that garnered attention from fans (in the way of 10 million views) and Warner alike.

Shooting will take place in Vancouver in early February, with the series slated to release via “online retailers” this spring. The release window positions the series to nicely co-promote the newest MK game, which was recently announced as hitting retail on April 19.

Described as an “anthology of multiple live action shorts,” deep character profiles are promised for the likes of Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, and more.

Warner says more casting details will be made available in the coming weeks.

  • Interesting... Heres to hopping it's good!

  • This series is sure to be promising. Although, I don't see how it can give an insight to all fighters when it makes a "real world" connection to them instead of the actual game background.
  • It was amazing short.

  • So looking forward to this. Loved Rebirth.
  • Why is Jax so serious? /bad joke This looks awesome
  • For a web series, I think this will be awesome.

  • That is good timing having the series on around the same time of MK's game release. I knew there was a good reason for not jumping on this idea earlier.
  • Glad something came out of that short, though it would be hard to imagine nothing coming from it given the buzz for that week after it was posted.

  • Why Johnny Cage always have to be dead? or die at the beginning?

And what about the other realms? It look's awesome, however i'd like for it to stick with the story... and not kill the characters from the start.

  • It Looks real koo.

  • Live Action Mortal Kombat digital series... this can't be good.

  • This is awesome news.  The Rebirth short was so so good.

  • I'll be looking forward to see how it all works out.

  • Lateef Crowder as Baraka!! Nice change up in the fighting style. NEVER saw that switch coming.

  • J-Cage got his butt handed to him.  "FINISH HIMMMMMMMMMM!!" BARAKA WINS FATALITY So far this looks like it will be a good movie.  I'm a hugh Scorpion fan he looks awsome super cool villian.  I would love to see what Sub-Zero looks like.  Pause at 7:12 To see Face

  • This is awesome!  The possibilites are as good as THE WALKING DEAD!  Hope we get a few seasons out of it!

  • Awesome. If the shorts are anything like the fan short, it will be amazing.

  • How is Johnny Cage going to have a deep character profile if he dies in the first episode?
  • I love that short. If the web series retains even a quarter of the atmosphere and great action that that short did it will be pretty *** good.
  • Really excited for this. I really hope that they maintain the gritty realism that had in the trailer, and that it does not get conveluted with too many supernatural elements (though I know they will have too for sub-zero). April cannot come soon enough!
