The lights are on
It's not easy being a game developer. You slave for months to craft the most epic hunting game yet, and Microsoft stomps all over your glory by popping out another Halo game on the same day. Luckily, the gents over at Mega64 are here to give Cabela's North American Adventures -- the other "final chapter in a blockbuster franchise" released this week -- the respect it deserves.
In Mega64's latest video, we get a look at the heartbreak and outrage felt by the Cabela's team when they discover that Bungie is releasing Halo: Reach day and date with their latest masterpiece. The team doesn't take things lying down though; they march right over to Bungie HQ and make their voices heard.
The craziest part? This isn't the first time a scheduling conflict like this has happened. As hinted at in the video, Halo 3 was actually released on the same date as Cabela's Trophy Bucks, the "greatest first-person shooter ever made." And then again last year, with Halo 3: ODST releasing at the same time as Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2010. Does Activision know something we don't? Do they somehow sell more Cabela's by having it hit shelves the same time as Halo?
i love you rocco
honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they did sell more releasing on the same day. Cabela's doesn't strike me as something you wait for in lines like Halo, it seems more like one of those things you see in the store and then think about later and go back for. Having it hit on the same day as (or just in the general timeframe of) a Halo game gives a lot of potential for people stopping in to grab Halo to see it and feel that impulse or whatever it is. Or maybe it's just luck who knows. I'm just making *** up as I go.
This is hilarious
Funny but did anyone notice the guy in the wheelchair get up?
I know its a reenactment but some authenticity people!
"If this place doesnt shutdown our next game is going to be this place hunter"
This is obviously the best video I seen, it is almost perfectly made. Plus I fell of my chair laughing when watched it.
Cabela Wars. XD
It's entirely possible that Activision does this intentionally. They're publishing both games, it's not like they're oblivious to it. Customers who buy one shooter will probably show interest in another.
Best. Ending. Ever.
They probably do it as an excuse to complain to Bungi about overshadowing thier weak-ass games. Maybe they do it so the Cabela's games flop and they can stop having to produce them. Why does activiion produce so much crap along with triplea titles? They produce the paintball games too right?
A long time ago, a pious old man told Activision that releasing on the same date as a Halo game would bring about great fame and fortune. And look: Game Informer did an article on the game. Coincidence? Or providence?
Oh, and why aren't the Cabela's games listed under the "games mentioned in this article" list? They are quite mentioned.
Excellent marketing tricks.
I would totally buy, "Cabela's This Place Hunter" :D
I love this. I subscribe to both Mega64 and Game Informer, and this is like some awesome crossover.
That there bigin' looks jist lakk mah deddy did fer dat big buck made amessofim adder e put dat stag piss on emself fer ta get on amercas funniest home vidgioes! Dat deer done nocked em down a gulch. Ya shoulda seen em goin down dat hill jista changen ends! Per deddy!
I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie security wielded Gravity Hammers.
Probably one of the best Mega64 I have seen lately. Ballsy move going in Bungie like that.
Love the part "I want you to take this down, I don't want to see this here anymore".
Maybe if the harmless animals used squad tactics and assault rifles, Cabela's could've won that day.
Pure win. I love it.
That two piece brown facial hair is so *** funny
