PSA: Microsoft Is Not Selling Halo Reach For $1,250

by Phil Kollar on Aug 16, 2010 at 06:03 PM

Earlier today, blogs and forums went crazy with the discovery that Halo Reach is apparently available on Xbox Live a month before its retail release for a whopping 99,999 Microsoft Points (just under $1,250). Just in case you got your hopes up and started saving up some quarters, I'll break the bad news: No, even if you are super-rich with Microsoft Points, you cannot buy Halo Reach early.

Joystiq has confirmation from Microsoft that Reach is only appearing on Xbox Live's Games on Demand service so that reviewers can get early access before the game's launch. Even if you had enough money to try downloading it, you would need a special download code to purchase it.

Microsoft also noted that the game will not be available through Games on Demand when it launches at retail. Though it's possible that it will legitimately appear on the service eventually, right now it's only there for reviewers.

Sorry, Halo fans. Back to the waiting game.
