Games For Windows Live Games On Demand Expanding

by Phil Kollar on Jun 08, 2010 at 07:07 AM

Every time we think Microsoft has completely given up on PC gaming, they offer up one more exhausted push on their Games for Windows service. This time around, the big news comes in the form of some major plans for the downloadable Games on Demand service offered on Games for Windows Live.

Major Nelson has news that Games on Demand for PC is expanding, with several "major game publishers" promising a Games for Windows Live version of their game day-and-date with the regular retail release. These publishers will also be digging into their back catalog to offer up older PC titles as downloadables on GFW Live.

The push for more Games on Demand kicks off today with the PC release of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. To help build buzz, Ubisoft is also offering a nice 75% discount on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within.

Microsoft is promising new Games on Demand additions every week and expects to have over 100 titles available on the service by the end of the year. For a service with just under a few dozen games right now, that's a nice improvement, although they've still got a long way to go if they hope to stand up to Valve's popular Steam downloadable game service.
