Indie Game Challenge Finalists Named

'Tis the season for indie game recognition, as evidenced by two ongoing indie-centric competitions. Yesterday the top 12 finalists for the Indie Game Challenge were announced, drawing and selecting from a similar pool of those who entered the 2010 Independent Games Festival Awards.

Sponsored by the Academy of Interactive Arts  & Sciences, GameStop, and The Guildhall at Southern Methodist University, the awards are dolled out on February 19 at the annual Design, Innovate, Communicate, and Entertain Summit (D.I.C.E). The prizes are divided amongst six non-professional and six professional teams, with a total of more than $350,000 in cash and scholarships up for grabs. G4's X-Play host Adam Sessler will host the event.

As with the IGF ceremony, the real reward comes after the show, when the finalists use the summit as a chance to market their games to commercial venues. AIAS is even arranging private meetings between the finalists and top executives. Meaning, you should expect to see more from all the contenders below.

Comments
  • I don't actually follow these competitions, but I do remember the indie games you covered last year, and I actually did end up trying The Maw because of it.  I'd be a fool not to see what's going up this year.

But of course, I can't finish this post without a good old-fashioned "First!"  After all, it seems mandatory at this point on the site :-P

  • SECOND

  • Third

  • C'mon guys, if you're going to post your number, at least add something to the conversation up top.  Otherwise, we just have people come in and complain about how much they hate number people, and it turns into a giant flame war, pretty much killing the news post.

  • i don't play very many indy games though some look very interesting

  • Vote 4 Pedro

I just joined GameInformer an hour ago maybe. This was my first ever post on this site.

  • By that I mean my "Third" post was my first post ever on this site.

This site needs an edit function.

  • Alright, since you're new and not used to the customs here, I'll cut you some slack :-P

  • Vote 4 Pedro

But "First!" annoys a lot of people and i think i will enjoy that,so expect more of "First" from me in the future accompanying my post.

  • adam sessler is the sh*t.  i remember watching his show when it was extended play, and gamestop before that, and with his other short lived host kate.  (i think all that's right).  but yeah... he's the sh*t!!!!!!
