EA Announces Dead Space 2

Visceral Games and Electronic Arts are returning to deep space with the announcement of Dead Space 2. Considering the positive response to Isaac Clarke’s first adventure a sequel doesn't come as a surprise, but is welcome all the same.

“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. “The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

EA boasts that Clarke will have new tools at his disposal to take out a variety of Necromorph foes. Considering how disturbing and disgusting the original Necromorphs were, we can’t wait to see what Visceral has dreamt up this time around.

“Like so many gamers worldwide, we love the Dead Space franchise and are very excited to announce a new game in the series,” continued Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “Visceral Games is quickly becoming known for delivering high-quality, action-packed games. Dead Space 2 is on target to deliver a jaw-dropping experience gamers won’t soon forget.”

Dead Space 2 is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Are you excited for Clarke’s return to space? Any of you check out the recently released Dead Space Extraction to tide you over?

  • first, and cool

  • I better make sure my light bulbs are working when I pick this one up.

  • Heck yes! Can't wait until they create this sequel!

  • I truly hope they don't go over the top with the Necromorphs designs. They were almost perfectly (ill) conceived in Dead Space and I'd hate for them to descend into 'campy' territory. The fear of these creatures is borne from their subtlety I think. You can honestly imagine them mutating from a human. If they are brought beyond that threshold, they may be reduced to "Oh...wow. Another multi-limbed undead looking thing...zap...zap." instead of "HOLY S**T!! WHAT THE **** IS ...ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP...WAS THAT!?"

  • dude im not playing this until i have every light on in the house at noon when there are no clouds and i am not home alone.

  • I'm not too excited about this surprisingly? I really didn't like the first one, so I don't think I'll buy it.

  • Hmm... I still need to play the first one i guess.

  • Thank God. That just made my day

  • We all saw it coming, but we're all glad its here.

Dead Space is one of my favorite games of this generation and if I had a Wii I would have got Extraction on day one.

  • Enough with the Sci-fy already ... Yawnnnnnnnnn

  • gonna be wicked!

  • I would buy this if the exact game design was the very same as the first in the series.  It was so strong that I never got tired of playing the game, and as I grew more powerful I was still freaked out by those Necromorphs because of their unpredictable nature.  My only suggestion is not to oversaturate the aspects of what worked in the game.

Don't give us too many guns.  Keeping four on hand with two or three optional others was a great offensive aspect of the first game, and don't make too many new 'powers', rather, find new and inventive ways to use the old abilities.

DO make plenty of new enemies.  There can never be enough variety of grotesque enemies.

  • I enjoyed the first game... It was very much like playing a a hybrid Leviathan / Aliens story. It wasn't scary per se, but it had it's tense moments and thrilling atmosphere. I'm interested to see how they continue it.

  • Here's hoping Clarke has more personality this time around.

  • It was only a matter of time boefore they would make this announcement.  The first game is great.  It had be jumping out of my seat wondering where the next thing was going to come out and get me.

  • Who didn't see this coming?...

  • I'll gladly endure the creepiness all over again. This game could not get here fast enough.

  • I can't wait. Loved the First one. I couldn't play it alone. It was easily one of my favorites. Is there a RD announced? Probally not this soon

  • ooohhh boy ^.^ I have to say I found out how wussy I really am with that game. Everyone was in bed I just bought that game, hmmm I like horror movies..LIGHTS OUT surround sound on...big mistake. LOL My heart was thumping and I was scared *#(!less when those creepy crawlers jumped out at me. But yah Im an adrenaline junkie so that the way I've continued to play (I got it when it went to 20buckaroos so Im still not done lol) but I'll def be picking up it's next release!
