The Best Achievements And Trophies Of 2015

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 26, 2015 at 08:00 AM

Whether you love them, hate them, or forget they exist until they pop on your screen and interrupt your game, achievements and trophies are a (literally) required feature of all PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam games. I fall into the love camp, and these are some of my favorites from 2015.

The achievements and trophies I find most interesting aren't the ones that mark your progress in a storyline or reward you for attaining a certain number of headshots. I like the ones that force you to think outside of the normal functions of the game or reward you for doing something weird.

Follow the links to see 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014's best achievements and trophies.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Lara's latest adventure had more off-the-wall achievements than the 2013 reboot. Many of the weirder ones were food related, but there is a difficult one to pull off that required Lara to dive headfirst into a well.

Rotisserie - Shoot a chicken out of the air with a fire arrow.
For My Next Trick... -
Dive into a well.
Bacon! -
Kill a razorback boar using a Molotov cocktail.

Fallout 4
The prankster achievement is always a good one, and I appreciate the strange one that requires you to run the bases of Diamond City. The touchdown achievement also requires your death at the hand of a Super Mutant Suicider.

Prankster's Return - Placed A Grenade Or Mine While Pickpocketing.
Homerun! -
Get a Homerun.
Touchdown! -
Get a Touchdown.

Just Cause 3
Any opportunity a game gives you to quietly sing Elton John's 1972 classic to yourself while playing is a good achievement. Also, I like that it rewards you for making people fly.

My Little Rocket Man - Tether an enemy to a launched gas cannister. Adeo, amico!
You're Outta Here! -
Plant a Booster Explosive on an enemy soldier. Then send them flying.

Mortal Kombat X
Most of Mortal Kombat X's achievements are related to doing certain things a certain number of times, so I like that this one stands out as being particularly weird.

Blanche Advantage - Hit someone with the old lady Level Interaction.

Dying Light
The Pheidippides reference is humorous and educational, and there is just something I can't quite put my finger on that makes the second one on the list there so cool. It should be pretty obvious why I like the third one, but it's also interesting because Mirror's Edge – a game Dying Light share some ideas with – has a very similar achievement.

Pheidippides - Run (move or sprint) at least 42.195 m.
Everybody Knows Kyle -
Reach Survivor Rank lvl 12.
Italian Plumber -
Kill an enemy with a wrench, using Vault followed by Drop Attack.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
Rewarding you for heavy drinking in a video game is a new idea. I also like Indiana Jones references, and like that the final achievement on the list yells at you for shooting horses.

Cerevisaphile - Sample every beer brand in London.
No Ticket -
Kick 50 enemies off of trains.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU -
Flip five vehicles by shooting their horses.

Lego Dimensions
I'm sure Batman hates it, but that's not your problem.

But Does it Come in Pink? - Give the Batmobile a pink paint job.

Lego Jurassic World
I like these, because it's entirely possible you will not encounter any of these moments during the course of the game, but it calls out the films in a fun way. I especially like the Dennis Nedry one.

Not Machine Compatible - Try to use a hacker terminal as Alan Grant.
Anybody Want a Soda? -
As Dennis Nedry, throw a soda can at another character.
The Human Piece Of Toast -
Give Timmy a shock.
