The Best Achievements And Trophies Of 2012

Whether you love them, hate them, or forget they exist until they pop on your screen and interrupt your game, achievements and trophies have become a (literally) required aspect of all PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games.

I fall into the love camp, and these are some of my favorites from 2012. The achievements and trophies that I find most interesting aren't the ones that mark your progress in a storyline or reward you for attaining a certain number of headshots. I like the ones that force you to think outside of the normal functions of the game, or simply reward you for doing something weird.

Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect is a game that’s all about its story, and as such many of its achievements tie into specific  storyline moments. This is one that you have to go out of your way to get, and it's not easy. When you do pull it off though, it feels great.
Hijacker – Hijack an Atlas Mech

Journey
I actually have a very specific story as to why I like these Trophies so much, and you can read about them right here.
Ancestors – Find a mysterious creature hidden in the temple
Reflection – Sit and meditate with another player for more than 20 seconds

Dance Central 3
I got this achievement organically, and it made me laugh. Basically you get an achievement for being indecisive in your music choice.
Just pick something! – Skipped 5 songs in Party Time

Fez
This achievement, in a way, defines what is so amazing about Fez. It forces you to think outside of the traditional boundaries of video games in order to find an unlock everything.
Achievement unlocked – RTRTLTRTRTLTLTLT

Prototype 2
Born of an Internet meme, karate kicking a helicopter feels pretty damn good.
Arcade action – Karate kicked a helicopter

  • Wasn't it Donkey Mong?
  • One of my favorite was the in elder scrolls V: dragonborn when you stepped off the boat and got the achievement "outlander". It brought back so many good memories from morrowind.
  • Journey....I can't explain it but that game gives off a majestic feeling when you play it
  • My favorite was Dishonored achivement "food chain" "You assassinated an Assassin"
  • One my faves that I got on accident was in Max Payne 3 on the roof tops. I laughed pretty hard Sometimes You Get Lucky-get a headshot during the roof top tremors.
  • Minimalist in Unfinished Swan is easily the best trophy of the year.

  • I'm so tired of that "One does not simply" meme. -_-
  • I love to nibble on juicy pineapples and let their sweet smelling succulent juices run all down my face. Oh yes the JUICES smell and taste soooo good.
  • The Walking Dead: After killing Clem's zombified babysitter, you unlock the "Adventures in Babysitting" Achievement/Trophy
  • Borderlands2's Face McShooty's "Well that was easy..." was my favorite. The instant you pull the trigger it pops up. Had my friends and I laughing for a good long while.
  • I think the only one of these I have is hijacking the Atlas Mech in Mass Effect 3

  • Cut down the mightiest man in the club WIIIITH...a herring!
  • The "Smothering" trophy in NBA 2k13 is my favorite.  I love playing defense.

  • assassin creed 3 how u like them apples...
  • one of my favorite this year was "how about them apples" in AC3 when you find out what haytham really is
  • It's definitely Mong, not Kong. No lawyers needed. Anyway, one does not simply have better achievement titles than Lego LotR.

  • One does not simply... Awesome.
  • Ah the achievement for making Claptrap talk about the rainbow was awesome! I didn't even do it, some random guy in my game turned it on and I literally laughed for like 10 minutes!

  • I had harder FarCry 3 trophies I needed to get plat, but that internet show was awesome glad it made it into the game. That and I hate that actor who got buried he is annoying..
