The lights are on
I’ve got a massive soft spot for pint-sized cosplay, meaning Mini Chief wreaked havoc on my heart. Created by Randall Ng for his son, Paxton compensates for his short stature with boatloads of style and a juice box or two. I can’t wait to see what this father/son duo comes up with next!
Who: The CharacterPaxton is dressed up as Master Chief from Halo 4: Sierra-117. We have officially named this costume "the Mini Chief."
DecisionI have always been a fan of the Halo series, and the new Halo 4 armor was just so awesome. I made this costume for my son, as he also enjoys Halo and cool looking costumes.
ProcessThe costume from planning through construction took about two months to complete with modifications during each iteration for durability, detailing, and fitting. Most of the costume is made of 6mm craft foam and assembled with lots and lots of super glue. I used normal acrylic paint for colors. It's extremely lightweight and fairly durable. The helmet was the most difficult part of the costume, as I had to consider ventilation points and visibility while retaining the look of the character.
Where and When:
The DebutThe Mini Chief debuted when I brought him to work. A photo taken of him on August 21, 2012 went viral with various sites labeling it, "Haters Gonna Hate."
Cosplayer"The Mini Chief" has his own Facebook page called, "The Big Adventures of the Mini Chief," which was originally made just for friends and coworkers but then it was discovered by some other sites and has a modest following now. My website is www.randallng.com where I have a small section for costumes I've made for him in the past.
Now that is friggin awesome
I am suddenly very jealous of this little boy.
that so rocks! hope we see him with other halo cosplayers no THAT would be cool :) thanks for the info
Little dude made me lol with the pic of him in the warthog :D also the last pic. Good job though on the costume it came out great.
Lol, this is awesome. I like the picture where he's holding Cortana. I also like that ODST costume.
And then the aliens got him with their giant birds.
I wish I was that cool when I was a kid. That suit is awesome.
That is so awesome!
That's pretty awesome!!!!! He's a lucky kid.
Wow. Thats adorable.
He's so little! And he has a gun! AHHHHHHH!!!
This kid's dad is the best!
Some of the images make it look like Halo in Big Head Mode. Awesome. lol
Amazing work. I remember seeing a "mini-chief" costume like this at Emerald City Comic Con this last March in Seattle. Don't know if it was this little guy, but the more Master Chiefs in the world the better.
Chief's gonna need a phone book to sit on if he wants to see above the warthog's dashboard.
