Replay – Max Payne GBA

Before you yell "Hey, you guys already did a Replay of Max Payne!" at your computer screen, I implore you to take a look at the screen above. That is definitely not the original Max Payne. No, it's actually the Game Boy Advance version of the game. But don't write off this less-powerful version of the game yet; check out our surprising Replay first.

Join Matt Helgeson, Andrew Reiner, Kyle Hilliard, and myself as we plug in another chapter of gaming's biggest sad sack. The isometric view may be a bit clunky at times, but you'll be shocked by how convincing the Bullet Time effect looks.

  • Handheld replays? Pleasant surprise, guys. Does this open the way for other replays (super or otherwise), of handheld games? Because there are a lot of handheld gems out there.
  • Alrighty. Work be damned! A new replay is up.

  • I love replay i cant wait for the first handheld super replay.
  • So are you guys just huddled up together around one gameboy? That has to be pretty uncomfortable.

It was pretty awesome when Tim blew up the barrel and killed those two guys.
  • That was a surprisingly well made handheld port. I am impressed.

  • Ugh. Out of all the great, colorful GBA games, you guys play Max Payne (which, admittedly, is interesting) and ...Planet of the Apes? Weak.

When you next do some GBA Replays, why not check out something like Drill Dozer, Astro Boy, Sonic Advance 2, Sigma Star Saga, Rebelstar Tactical Command (from the creators of XCom), or Klonoa (either Empire of Dreams or Dream Champ Tournament). Heck, even go with some more technical oddities like Max Payne there; the GBA Tony Hawk games, Jet Set Radio for the handheld or any FPS (Doom, Doom 2, Duke Nukem Advance, Dark Arena, etc.)

Planet of the Apes was really bad. And Max Payne is just ugly as sin. Man, and I thought disgusting "realistic" games awash in browns and greys were just a problem for this generation...
  • There was a GameBoy version of Max Payne?!
  • Yes! A Gameboy Advance replay.

  • Oh cool another handheld replay.
  • I didn't even know this game existed. Nice pick guys.
  • Max Payne 3 has made me a fan of this series, but it's hard to go back after the latest iteration. It's cool though to see a side step in the series.
  • this is another and new wait.

  • I hope Hanson or Jason can up the quality of handheld Replays/Test Chambers in the future. The portable screens upscale to a 1920x1080 resolution poorly. On the plus side, fantastic commentary as always guys. I think I'll stick with the console versions of Max Payne.
  • This is actually really spiffy. Cool that they did a good job of reducing Max Payne to a handheld format while still making it so much in the spirit of the series.

  • Man, I havnt seen a GB replay since the Metroid 2 replay.  Its cool that you guys have the tech.  I actually got a copy of this game for free.  I thought it was clunky, but not bad.   It actually managed to hold up to the Xbox version, which I own and still love to this day.

  • i have seen better replays, not bad nt great. hopefully next week will be better than this.

  • Love Max Payne, that GBA version didn't look half bad. Great Replays again, I had a lot of fun watching.
  • That went by too fast. Now I have to wait another week :( Two Replays a week is needed!! Also, needs more Dan.
  • I completely forgot that they made a GBA version of Max Payne.

  • Is this the first time you've done a replay of a handheld game?
