CosBlog # 75: Mad Alice by Odango

by Meagan Marie on Apr 26, 2012 at 12:00 PM

Cosplayer Odango tackled American McGee’s Alice for an annual convention in Russia, taking the time to recreate one of the protagonists more unusual weapons. Check out her excellent work below!

Who: The Character
The character is Alice Liddell from American McGee's Alice/Alice: Madness Retunes games.

Why: The Decision
On the one hand it was a sudden decision, but on the other this choice was already predetermined. Our cosplay group was looking for a new franchise to cosplay and that time the second Alice game was announced. It was kinda a great sign and as we adore McGee's Alice, and so we dared to base our future performance on the game. The main role was given to me, I'm so glad.

What: The Process
My costume is the first "classic" Alice dress. It was easy enough to find proper fabric and not difficult to sew it. However making weapons took more time and effort. The Vorpal Blade was made by my Dad from nothing, and then I made the patterns on it. The Hobby Horse (its name is Karl, by the way XD) is my work. It is made of styrofoam. It's not good enough, but still a lovely part of this cosplay. The whole work took me about two months or less and I was ready for the festival almost in time.

Where and When: The Debut
The debut was in August at the Akiban 2011 convention (Russia, Izhevsk). We had a lot of fun and unexpectedly won the 1st prize in cosplay contest. Then my costume had two photoshoots. The first time it was cold and raining hard. Thanks to Dante, who found the place and was the photographer, we made some nice photos. The second time I went to the studio to show the final result after some changes in the costume and make-up. Hope you like it!
