The lights are on
Doom is the grandfather of the modern shooter, originating many of the things we've come to know and love about gory first-person experiences. But does it still hold up today? Yep. The PlayStation 1 port? Maybe not as much.
Join Jeff Marchiafava, Joe Juba, Andrew Reiner, and I as we blast through a few demon-infested levels, discuss the proper coloring of explosive barrels, and try to imagine a world in which something called the "fistol" exists. Stay tuned in for the Replay Roulette where I force Joe to play the PS1 adaptation of a TV show from my childhood. Spoiler alert: He is displeased.
Digging our commentary on top of old games? Check out a whole lot more of it -- over 100 episodes! -- on our Replay hub.
Power Rangers Super Replay!
I only played the SNES version of Doom...it was fun. Two new Super Replays, eh? You guys need to change the name of the magazine to Super Replay...uh...Informer.
This is the first game I ever played on the PC(doom95 it was called).
Good ol' PS1 Doom. I remember playing deathmatch with 2 PS1 connected, it was amazing.
I don't think this game's level design has ever been topped. The closest anyone has gotten to the absolute mastery of Doom's levels is Valve with their Half-Life games, but even those just pale in comparison the labyrinths of id's masterpiece.
Unfortunately, the PSX version that is being played here has some strange subtractions to the levels that just detract from the experience for me at least. That's something that almost all of the console ports from the 90's had.
The PlayStation version is clearly the best version of Doom. I mean, it has green lighting in some of the rooms and you hit triangle to shoot!
I think a fistol is just a handgun that shoots flaming fists, a la Ryu's old fireballs in Street Fighter II.
I didn't even know the Power Rangers were still around in 2000. I used to watch the original show on TV when I was a kid. I also had a Super Nintendo beat-'em-up called simply Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers that was really good.
poor dan lol
A must play classic, Doom is the bomb!!!!
a fistol, well could be a special women toy....
That was hilarious!!! Awesome guys! XD
I'm ashamed to say that i owned that power rangers game when I was a kid.......and I'm even more ashamed that I remember enjoying it ALOT lol.......
