EA Loses Third Wave Of Studio Founders

by Jeff Cork on Jan 06, 2014 at 04:12 AM

Chillingo founders Chris Byatte and Joe Wee are leaving the company they founded in 2005, making them the third wave of leaders to depart EA in a week.

We reached out to EA, and were given the following short and sweet statement: "Joe and Chris have left Chillingo and EA. We wish them well with their future endeavors."

Chillingo is a mobile-games publisher best known for its work with iOS titles including Cut the Rope and Angry Birds. It was acquired by EA in 2005. Byatte and Wee remained at the company, both serving as directors and general managers at the studio.

The departures follow those of PopCap CEO Dave Roberts and PopCap co-founder (and Bejeweled creator) Jason Kapalka; and Criterion founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry.

Our Take
It's tempting to connect the dots and assume the worst when a group of people leave a company. Until we learn more, we won't know if Byatte and Wee were inspired to move on because of their relationship with EA or merely a desire to try something new.
