Warner Bros. And TT Games Return To Lego Middle-earth With The Hobbit

by Mike Futter on Nov 25, 2013 at 02:41 AM

The Hobbit trilogy is in full swing, and rumors circulated last week about a Lego tie-in title. Now we know there will be at least one. Warner Bros. and TT Games have announced Lego The Hobbit.

The title will cover the first two movies (An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug). Confirmed characters include Gandalf, Bilbo, Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, and Ori.

Familiar locations like The Shire, Mirkwood, and Rivendell will be included. The title will also include a harvesting and crafting mechanic.

Lego The Hobbit will be out next year for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Vita, 3DS, PC, and Mac. The Desolation of Smaug will be in theaters on December 13, 2013. If your interested in TT Games’ first trip to Middle-earth, you can read our review of Lego Lord of the Rings.

Our Take
The Lego games have grown and matured since Lego Star Wars first arrived on the Xbox and PlayStation 2. Now, the titles are fully voiced, include a number of different collectibles, and have branched into an open-world environment. Lego Lord of the Rings was great fun, and I'm expecting big things from The Hobbit. I just know that there will likely be a collected version down the line once all three movies are out.
