Dan Porter, Head Of Zynga NYC Departs, Vice President Promoted

by Mike Futter on Apr 02, 2013 at 09:15 AM

Zynga has been having a rough go of it lately with high-profile departures and studio closures setting a troubling tone during the past six months. Zynga NYC general manager Dan Porter is the latest to leave the mobile and Facebook publisher. Prior to his role with Zynga, Porter was the CEO of OMGPop, creators of Draw Something. The company was acquired by the Mafia Wars publisher last year for nearly $200 million. According to his personal website, Porter served as the senior vice president of corporate development for Virgin USA and the president and CEO of TicketWeb before it was sold to Ticketmaster.

A Zynga representative told Game Informer that the parting was mutual, providing this statement from chief operations officer David Ko:

"Developing and launching games is a team effort, and we're proud of the great work the Zynga New York team has done with Draw Something 2. Our follow up to the original hit is even more social and engaging, and we're excited to get it into the hands of our players globally. We thank Dan Porter for his efforts in making the Draw Something franchise a success and wish him well in his future endeavors. We're proud to see talent like Sean Kelly take a bigger leadership role as the Head of our New York studio and lead the team to the global launch of Draw Something 2."

Kelly, who will now head the New York studio, has been with the company since 2009 and led the CityVille team, among others. Draw Something 2 is currently available in Sweden and will be arriving in other territories soon.
