  • Brief Thoughts on Master Mode Breath of the Wild

    3

Since Density 2 seems to have lost the plot, and my daughter wanted to play Breath of the Wild, I figured I'd run through the game on Master Mode to see what all the fuss was about, and to be able to help guide her through the game.  She seems to be enjoying just wandering around in it, being lost and killing Bokoblins.  She's accomplished a few impressive things on her own (she's all of 8), but I think the systems in the game are still a little out of her league, coordination-wise, at this point.  I know I wouldn't have been able to handle it.  One thing that always cheers her up is when I remind her that when I was her age I was playing on an Atari 2600, and it only had one stick and one button to deal with.

  • On the Mega Man Games (Mega Man 5 and 6)

I meant to have this up earlier, but there was a horrible stomach bug that ran through the _M household before Christmas, and then we spent Christmas at my parents' house.

  • Thoughts on The Last Jedi

So I went and saw The Last Jedi (The Lost Jedi?) last weekend before Christmas when we went down to visit my family.  Oh, SPOILERS if you really need that kind of warning.

  • On the Mega Man Games (Mega Man 3 and 4)

    1

In the previous post I talked about the first two games, including my favorite of the entire series, Mega Man 2.  In this one I want to get into the next two sequels, including where I think Capcom went disastrously wrong with 4 and the consequences that had for the rest of the series.

  • On the Mega Man Games (Mega Man and Mega Man 2)

So there's a lot of excitement in the _M household with the announcement of Mega Man 11.  This is mainly due to the fact that I love Mega Man 2, but also because my children have taken a liking to the Blue Bomber as well.  It's really funny watching my five-year-old son try to explain to my wife, who could not care less, about the various Robot Masters, and their weaknesses and strengths.  Bless her heart, she tries to feign interest really well, but being an only child she never really got good at it, and it's only a matter of time before the children figure it out.

  • Further Thoughts on Density 2, and GI in General

So I've had a good amount of time to play through Destiny 2, unlike certain game writers who have to cram for it and release their opinions as quickly as possible.  That's the business, but let's be honest - their opinions don't count for crap any more.  After watching a lot of the "great" personalities pick sides in a ridiculous debate, we'd all be better off simply using the user reviews on Metacritic or some other kind of aggregate site.  We come to places like Game Informer because we like the personalities and writing styles of the writers employed there.  I like Reiner, the Jeffs, the Matts, and Kyle most of the time, and Kim is probably my favorite.  I don't always get where she's coming from, but the way she writes about RPGs demonstrates a breadth and depth of experience with them that's hard to find anywhere else, and her style is clear and concise.  Dan Tack is probably my second favorite.  His no nonsense, bottom line style suits me just fine and I really enjoy his analyses.

  • Adventures in SNES Classic Buying

    3

This morning I set out with my almost five-year-old son to get two extra SNES Classics, in addition to the one I had pre-ordered from GameStop.  I wanted these two to give away as gifts.  One of my college friends wants one, and another one has his 40th birthday coming up, and I'm hoping to surprise him with it.  Honestly I did not expect to succeed, given the online demand and the sheer number of news stories from "normal" websites like Time, the NYT, and other national outlets.

  • I'm Not Sure What Orville Is Supposed to Be

    1

So my wife and I were pretty excited about Orville, mainly because we like Star Trek-type stuff and she loves Galaxy Quest.  And I like the early years of Family Guy, when the show was actually edgy and wasn't just recycling its jokes.  For those who, like most of the world, can't remember back that far, Family Guy was actually cancelled early on for some Jewish-related comment.  It clearly wasn't that bad since they brought it back.  But I digress.
