  • Tim Just Spoiled The Ending Of Red Dead For Me

    69 3

I haven't beaten Red Dead Redemption yet. It just came out two months ago and it's a massive game, so I was slowly working my way through it. Now, thanks to Tim Turi, I don't need to worry about finishing; in an email, he casually ruined what happens in the closing minutes of John Marston's Wild West adventure. Because I'm a better man, I'm going to keep this post spoiler-free, but the incident got me thinking about two things. 1) What is the best way to take revenge on Tim, and 2) How soon is too soon to talk about pivotal moments in games? • You Have Probably Played The Game Of The Year

    90 2

It's July, which means we're halfway through 2010. With six months left to go, discussions about the Game of the Year may seem premature, especially since the holiday season always has some great titles to contribute. However, thanks to the Great Delay Epidemic of 2009, the first half of this year was unusually packed with awesome games...and one of them is probably the Game of the Year. More

  • New 1000 Club Inductee: Bayonetta

    22 6

I've been wanting to go back to replay Bayonetta ever since I reviewed it. Actually, I've been wanting to replay it the instant I first saw the credits roll. After finally clearing the other big must-play titles of early 2010 off of my backlog, I decided to use the current lull in the gaming release schedule to bring Bayonetta into the fold of my 1000 Club. • God of War Fans: Do Not Read This Comic

    27 2

Today, the first issue of the God of War comic came out. I've been curious about it ever since it was announced; as a big fan of the series, I'm interested in the story behind Kratos and his fury.  So, naturally, I decided to read the comic to find out more about my favorite Spartan. Guh... what a huge mistake. More

  • Spring Cleaning: Get Off My Desk, Loser Toys!

    33 1

Over the years, I've accumulated a sizable collection of awesome (in my opinion) figures to adorn my desk. The problem? A desk stops serving its primary function when various toys take up all the room. This month, I was faced with some tough decisions in order to free up space – what gets to stay on my desk, and what becomes a casualty? In this blog entry, I'll let the winners take their victory lap. More

What toys get to stay on my desk, and which ones get stuffed into the cardboard box of shame?

  • Yes, Crybaby, Final Fantasy XIII Is Linear

    92 6

Final Fantasy XIII just came out, and you're probably a few hours into it by now. If so, you've probably noticed that it isn't structured quite like any of the Final Fantasy titles before it. It progresses linearly, with fewer opportunities for exploration, sidequests, and level grinding along the way. If that's a big problem for you, I suggest you rethink your position. More

Yes, Final Fantasy XIII is linear. It is also awesome – so where's the problem?

  • New 1000 Club Inductee: Mass Effect 2

    29 2

Last night I ushered Mass Effect 2 into my 1000 Club, which is just a snooty way of saying that I got all of the achievements. More

  • How I Made Ben Watch BloodRayne 2

    47 7

Odds are that you've never seen BloodRayne 2: Deliverance. That's one thing you don't have in common with Game Informer's Ben Reeves, who I tricked into watching the cinematic abomination through a combination of guile, trickery, and just plain lying. More

  • A Final Fantasy Dork Tells You What To Expect From FF XIII

    52 3

Now, I'm not trying to brag, but I've finished Final Fantasy XIII. As a longtime fan of the series, I can tell you that it is an excellent game...but that's about all I can say right now. If you want to read my full review, you'll have to pick up the March issue of Game Informer (I can't post it online until the game is closer to release). Thankfully, there are plenty of things in Final Fantasy XIII to talk about that don't involve giving it a score. But I'll warn you right now: This is going to get very, very nerdy. More

A Final Fantasy dork's spoiler-free rundown of some of the main systems in Final Fantasy XIII, how they work, and how prior games in the series influenced them.

  • Mass Effect 2: Mineral Scanning Is Terrible

    85 6

Like most of the gaming world, I'm playing Mass Effect 2 right now, and it is awesome. The story, combat, and structure are all even better than the original – which is high praise from me, considering how much I love Mass Effect (it's part of my 1000 Club). So far, there is only one area of the game that falls short – and, by "falls short," I mean "totally sucks" – the mineral scanning. More

Unlike the rest of Mass Effect 2, the mineral scanning idea is absolutely awful.

  • How To Cheat The Greatest RPG Ever Made

    50 5

Our list of the Top 200 games is full of compromises. There are some games that I personally think are glaring omissions (Myst), and others that shouldn't be on the list at all (Batman: Arkham Asylum), but there is one big victory on that list for me that makes all the imperfections worthwhile: Final Fantasy III at #8 as the greatest RPG of all time. • Top 10 Things Nick Said While Playing Tony Hawk Ride

    33 5

I walked into the conference room this afternoon to an alarming sight: Nick swaying and gyrating like an idiot as he played Tony Hawk: Ride. Not only did he look stupid, his frustration and anger were causing him to swear up a storm. Before he noticed I was there, I grabbed my notebook and started jotting down his incredulous and fury-laden curses. More
