  • Censorship vs. Filtering

The chances that you haven't heard are pretty small. The chances that you haven't heard and are reading this blog are even smaller. But, for that microscopically small minority of you, I'll recap.
The illustrious and always wise state of California decided that it would be a good idea to pass a bill requiring a two inch label on all games containing "deviant violence." Video games are crude. I don't think anyone can really deny that. For every subtle, nuanced masterpiece like Braid or Heavy Rain, there are a thousand Army of Two clones. It's just the nature of the medium.
GI recently had an article about the most offensive games ever made. And while the overwhelming majority of the games on that list were disgusting trash, one really didn't fit for me- The infamous "No Russian" level from Modern Warfare 2.

I explain why people shouldn't take video games so seriously. Come on. It's not like I spend all day blogging about them.

  • Blog of Rock #7: Children 18:3 (w/Interview!)

    3

I've realized something. Fame is a strange thing (or a fickle friend if you're a wizard). Talent doesn't necessarily guarantee fans or praise. That, of course, leads me to Children 18:3.

    More

I take a look at Children 18:3, one of the best new punk rock bands I've heard in a long time. Plus, I even got to interview them (!).

If you're anything like that adorable and kind-natured kitten, then you enjoy beating the hell out of other people in multiplayer. And let's face it, multiplayer in general is a blast. While story-driven games like Fallout 3 will always be appreciated... More
  • Why Game Ratings Are Terrible

As he passed the game over the scanner, it beeped and flashed a notice up on the screen. He gave the required spiel, saying, "Ma'am, you do know that this game is rated Mature for sci-fi violence, language, and blood and gore?"

  • True Faith - Part One

For those of you who don't know, I like writing. I'm not sure how good I am at it, but I try all the same. Recently I had an idea for a short story titled "True Faith." I will post parts of it as I finish them, so it's a work in progress. Feel free to leave feedback on ways to improve it. The story is more than a little depressing, so don't read this on a Monday.
