The lights are on
Square Enix's flagship series has been so influential to the genre that it's almost synonymous with RPG. Use this space to share your favorite Final Fantasy moments or gossip about the happenings in Vana'diel. What's your favorite Final Fantasy?
Since there's a Favorite Final Fantasy Character discussion, what is your most hated?
Here's mine:
Gogo (VI)- Useful, but just a lame character
Vanille (XIII)- She... is... AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My least favorite character would have to be President Shinra.. Only because he killed Biggs & Wedge (it wasnt personal but still) and tried to blame it on AVALANCHE right after! If President Shinra owned Final Fantasy 6 or somehow had a time machine and decided to buy Final Fantasy Tactics then maybe he'd know you can never truly kill Biggs and Wedge... Time to finally use an English lesson for once: Biggs and Wedge are to FF as Kenny is to South Park?
@Rodney: Aww, you spoiled it. Oh well. Yeah, they're unkillable. And Prez Shinra is a d-bag. He doesn't try and fight you; he gets on a helicoptor and flys away, letting his minions fight you!
And one person I don't know why people don't like is Tidus. I mean, he's not that bad.
Also, where'd you get that cool gunblade?
I don't really think its Tidus that people don't like. It's just when he's on the same game as Auron and Jecht he just kinda looses some of his cool factor or spotlight... Like Hope isn't completely horrible, but compared to Lightning he seems like the worst most boring whiniest character of all time.
Hope from FFXIII. I don't know if his constant whining was supposed to somehow endear him to the player, but it just made me want to punch him in the throat.
EDIT: Vaan kind of sucks too. I don't really hate him, but for being the 'main character' of FFXII, he doesn't add much to the story.
@Pessimistic Monkey
That's because Vaan wasn't the main character. Balthier was.
If you bred HK-47, Shale, Chai Ka and Wrex, the gaming world would explode from sheer badassery.
@Demon of Elru
Wait, he was?!
You could argue that Balthier, Basch and Ashe all could be the main character of the game. They're all much more deeply tied to the events of the game than Vaan is.
Cait Sith was just annoying on top of the fact that he was a tratior. Then he tried to redeem himself by sacrificing his robot body which he immediatley replaces with an exact copy, he may as well have sacrificed a Buick.
Can't really say I had one, except Snow, who was overrated and too predictable a character for my tastes. I was especially disappointed in him, given how important he was to the story of XIII. I really hope that if he appears in XIII-2 he has a much more improved personality.

I'd have to say Vaan and Penelo from FFXII. For a game that lacks character development already, they should not have made one of the least-developed characters as the lead. I personally though the game could have been a whole lot better had the gone with the traditional Four Warriors of Light scheme, with Ashe, Basch, Balthier and Fran.
Other characters I may mention are Cait Sith and the Yeti and the mime from FFVI (sooo not worth the time I spent finding those fools).
Umaro and Gogo were ones I didn't like also. I did like playing with Mog, though. He didn't have hardly any dialogue, but Mog still was an excellent party member combat-wise.
I loved FFVIII, but Zell is a straightup punk.

Squall. I said it and own it. Fantastic game, annoying whiner.
I agree about Squall. He's just so cold and unfriendly in a charmless way, the direct opposite of his goofy dad. Actually, I think I disliked most of the characters in FFVIII. Zell Dincht (Dincht? Seriously?! That sounds like something that could happen to your car) and Selphie were the annoying spunky characters in contrast to Squall's stoicity. Edea would have been a cooler protagonist after her heel face turn.
In terms of gameplay, not characterization, Kimahri was the weakest in FFX. His character is a weak Blue Mage.
I like Squall better in Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. Favorite winquote: "Gone talkin' to a wall." At least his English VA's voice is kinda sexy... :'D
