84 Things We Learned About Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation spent nearly all of its time on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here's every little detail offered during the presentation in bulleted list form.

  • Every character that has ever been in Smash Bros. is in the game.
  • 8-player Smash will return.
  • Cappy appears on Mario's hat, his wedding outfit from Odyssey, and and builder outfit from Super Mario Maker will be available.
  • Link wears the Champions tunic from Breath of the wild, but can wear the Tunic of the Wild.
  • Link has his remote bombs from Breath of the Wild and his Final Smash uses Breath of the Wild's ancient arrows.
  • The Ice Climbers are back!
  • Ike has a Path of Radiance outfit and a Radiant Dawn outfit, and the two outfits will have different voices.
  • Female Pikachu with a heart tail can be selected now.
  • Fox is modeled after Star Fox Zero and has a new Final Smash. No more Landmaster.
  • Falco has a similar new Final Smash, but it has a different formation.
  • Ryu always faces his foes, like he does in Street Fighter!
  • Samus can now charge moves in mid-air.
  • Marth's dancing blade is faster.
  • Roy, Lucina, and Marth speak in English now.
  • Snake and his Shadow Moses stage are back.
  • King Dedede's Final Smash is a cage match.
  • Zelda is modeled after her look in Link Between Worlds style. She has a regal Final Smash that seals opponents in the Triforce of Wisdom.
  • Sonic is way faster.
  • Pac-Man is much faster, too.
  • Pokémon trainer changes Pokémon during battle, and there is no penalty for sticking with one.
  • You can select a female trainer now.
  • Certain moves from Captain Falcon and other characters will activate slow-mo effects, but only in one-on-one matches.
  • Cloud has both his costumes and you can always see his limit gauge now.
 
  • Robin has meters displaying how much magic is left.
  • You can now see what The Villager pockets with an icon and there are eight different Villager skins.
  • Bowser's new Final Smash makes him as big as he was in Yoshi's Island.
  • Mr. Game and Watch looks even more old-school.
  • There are now three Links. Plain, Young, and Toon. Young Link drinks Lon Lon milk!
  • Wolf is based on his Star Fox Zero design.
  • Kirby can turn into a chest from Breath of the Wild and he can still copy everyone.
  • Shulk's arts are easier to select and Fiora now shows up in his Final Smash.
  • Ganondorf is modeled after his Ocarina of Time design and he turns into the Demon King (from Ocarina of Time) for his new Final Smash.
  • The Mii fighters' models look a little more realistic and have 12 voice options.
  • Online play is in their future.
  • Pit’s new Final Smash has him riding a lighting chariot.
  • Zero Suit Samus' new Final Smash fires a devastating laser.
  • Olimar’s helmet can get cracked now.
  • Bayonetta 2's different costumes have different sound effects and there is a Rodin Assist Trophy.
  • Wario's Final Smash is new.
  • Donkey Kong does rapid punches for his updated Final Smash.
  • Everyone has more facial animations.
  • Little Mac's Giga Mac Final Smash gets straight to the point now.
  • Paul and Poo now show up for Ness’ final smash
  • Kumatora and Boney now show up for Lucas' Final Smash.
  • The Wii Fit Trainer has a new face.
  • Proto Man and Bass are now part of Mega Man's Final Smash.
  • Rob has a new gauge in his chassis to represent hovering fuel.
  • Daisy is a fighter new! She is an echo of Peach.
  • Sakurai says that the changes made to the game number in tens of thousands.
  • The Inkling can cover opponents in ink and inked opponents take more damage from attacks and there are different weapons available.
  • The Inkling's Final Smash is the Killer Wail.
  • You can Run can run out of ink, but you can refill it.
  • There are eight outfits, each with different ink colors. Stages can get very colorful.
  • There is a Squid Sisters Assist Trophy.
  • You get points for K.O.-ing Assist Trophies, though some are unbeatable.
  • Bomberman is an Assist Trophy!
  • Starfy is an Assist Trophy!
  • There will be new Pokémon and items, like a healing field and a fake Smash Ball.
  • All the stages have received visual upgrades.
  • Peaches Castle is a stage in the game!
  • Spirit Train is a stage in the game!
  • Green Hill Zone is a stage in the game!
  • New Pork City is a stage in the game!
  • Wrecking Crew is a stage in the game!
  • Tortimer Island is a stage in the game!
  • Moray Towers is a new stage in the game!
  • Great Plateau is a new stage in the game, and is destructible, but can be rebuilt.
  • Corneria is a stage in the game!
  • Every stage will have a Battlefield and a simplified Omega form.
  • Directional air drops enhance mobility and are good for fall recovery.
  • Too much dodging will make you vulnerable.
  • Short hop attacks can be performed at any time.
  • You can smash by pressing  A+B.
  • Perfect Shield counter timing is tighter.
  • You will do more damage in one-on-one battles.
  • In timed battles, the person in the lead will occasionally sparkle.
  • GameCube controllers are compatible.
  • Amiibo are compatible and all versions of specific character figures will be supported. Previous FP data can be transferred to the new game.
  • Ridley is a fighter now!
  • The game can be played with a single Joy-Con.
  • You pick the stage now before you pick the fighter in Ultimate.
  • A score now appears on screen when someone gets knocked out.
  • All previous amiibo figures will work and their previous date moves forward.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases December 7, 2018.
