Major Nelson Previews Septembers Xbox One System Update, Media Player Improvements

by Wayne Stainrook on Aug 15, 2014 at 07:17 AM

Announced earlier this week at Gamescom, Xbox One's September system update will bring some notable changes to its media player, along with some new social features. Today, Xbox Live's Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, demonstrated and detailed some of those changes in action.

The media player update allows you to play files on Xbox One from either USB or streamed through another device via DLNA. Hryb and Xbox product team member Albert Penello walk viewers through opening music and movie files on Xbox One over a DLNA connection, and also discuss some of the new files formats supported with the new update.

Though the update is available to preview members today, it only runs files through USB for now, with DLNA to follow. For more on Xbox at Gamescom, check out our Microsoft press conference recap.
