Rayman Creator Wants UbiArt Framework To Be Open-Source

by Annette Gonzalez on Jul 14, 2011 at 08:28 AM

Rayman Creator Michel Ancel has expressed that he'd like the UbiArt framework used within Rayman Origins to be released as open-source to other developers.

“UbiArt has been built to be shared,” Ancel told Develop. “It won’t be like other games technologies, which are often just locked away.”

“If the guys who invented the paintbrush only kept it for themselves then fine art [would be in a sorry state], it would be ephemeral," he continued. "So yes, I want [UbiArt] to be open source, I want it to go out and be shared and evolved."

The head honchos at Ubisoft have yet to finalize UbiArt's licensing terms, but Ancel assured Develop that the framework will be free for use.
