Fortnite Raising Minimum Specs On PC With Season 10
There's an argument that any key to massive success on PC is that your game should be able to run on near anything. While plenty of people have PCs like laptops or general desktops, the market for dedicated gaming PCs can be quite a bit smaller. Still, as games as a service grow, it also means that you might want to do things that older technology doesn't allow, and you need to cut it off at some point. That seems to be the case with Fortnite, which is ending compatibility with graphics cards that don't support DirectX 11.
The news comes from a blog post by Epic today, which is pretty light on details about the subject. In short, if you have a PC and a graphics card older than circa 2009, you won't be able to play Fortnite after the season 10 launch.
"However, when Season 10 begins, Fortnite will no longer be compatible with these older graphics cards," Epic writes. "This allows us to focus our development and testing efforts to further optimize the Fortnite experience for all players."
While this does raise the lowest common hardware denominator for the game, it means there will inevitably be some people who will be locked out of playing Fortnite anymore. At least the game is available on pretty much every platform on the planet, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get back in.
Fortnite Season 10 is expected to start in the middle of July.
