Robot Entertainment’s Orcs Must Die Unchained has a new update with a new heroes, new skins, and some new trap cards to confound minions and players alike. If you’re in the closed beta, update 1.4 will be available for you on August 27.

The new hero, Tundra is a giant polar bear that can ignore some crowd control effects and disable enemy traps. Used appropriately, he’ll be able to shepherd minions through dangerous areas and rack up even more “leadership,” a valuable in-game resource.

The update also adds 20 new trap cards and a new “weaver,” which is used to upgrade your hero. On the usability front, Robot Entertainment has added a new tutorial that is mandatory for new players.

Another major change is the introduction of captains, which give the opposing team a chance to even the odds in a lopsided match. When a warcamp (minion spawn point) reaches level three or four, a captain will spawn at the end of the next wave.

It doesn’t attack and it won’t award your team leadership. If it gets into the opposing rift, it’s worth two points though. If the enemy team manages to kill it, they’ll earn an even share of gold and leadership that can be used to upgrade.

Captains also serve the purpose of creating different events during the match that require player coordination. Robot is testing whether this adds more strategic variety. Finally, update 1.4 adds Twitch integration to the game.

If you’re an Orcs Must Die Unchained player and you’ll be at PAX, you might want to make time to attend Robot Entertainment’s panel on Saturday, August 30, at 1:30 p.m. There will be giveaways for those in attendance and those who tune in via livestream.
