Frozen Cortex
There are two aspects of contemporary gaming that I love. One is asymmetric play, that is having opposing sides with different units, resources, and even goals. The other is planned, but simultaneously executed movement. Mode 7 has this one down pat.
Mode 7’s Frozen Synapse (now available on PS3, Vita, and PC) puts players in charge of military squads. Plotting movement means anticipating enemy vision cones and range of fire.
Frozen Cortex, now in Steam Early Access, swaps out the guns for balls. Instead of trying to kill the opponents (though you can do that, if you wish), you’re trying to deliver the ball to the scoring zone.
Today, Mode 7 added a single player campaign to Frozen Cortex. You can check out the trailer above, which shows off the basics of move planning, elements of the solo campaign, and the customization options.
Frozen Cortex is due to be released from Early Access in February.
