The lights are on
There has been a skyrocket in our usage amount of social media ever since the internet has existed. People have been checking their Facebooks, Myspace and Twitter accounts almost every minute, up to the point where it almost is an addiction. The benefits of this new wave of social media is undeniable, to be able to keep in touch with family, friends and loved ones at any time of the day is something that is truly amazing. But is there a limit? Hoarding over pictures, profiles and messages can be very detrimental to a person. It can lead to a dependence on your social media that sort of becomes a weird and unhealthy addiction. It takes away from other things that a person could be doing, such as spending time with family members instead of using social media to comment on pictures of them. The new age of social media definitely marks the beginning of a radical change in how we think and communicate. Just think about it for a second, for thousands of years humans have used the most natural ways of communication that the human being knows (verbal) and recently in the last couple of years we can now communicate with anyone at an instant. It certainly is a far cry from how our ancient ancestors communicated. Just take a moment to try to contemplate how we will be communicating in 50 years. Hard to imagine right? I don't even know if we will even be using verbal communication by then because it seems to be losing its place in our world every day. This new world we live in definitely is a fast paced one with new occurrences and developments happening everyday. Something that happens across the world can be instantly relayed everywhere! I'm just pondering the current situation that our society is in and I believe that sometimes it is best to just take a step back and really suck in and enjoy what we have. Where do you think our society is headed with the way things are now? Please feel free to comment.
Young children should be monitored and only have limited usage of the internet, and not be on social media at all. People are becoming too dependent, and it is already proven to be leading to higher levels of social disorders, depression, and bullying. Also, it desensitizes them and takes effort out of many aspects of life such as researching information and forming face to face relationships with others which everyone needs to be successful and happy in their own future. Excluding those issues it provides many benefits as well. It is much easier to get awareness out, obtain news, and stay in contact with people which may have been impossible or unaffordable a few decades ago. I think overall it is a beneficial medium, but it needs to be handled just as violent adult movies, adult video games, and adult conversations are around children. With care and explanation.
Your exactly right and give great points! There is no doubt that Social Media is definitely taking over our world :-(
There is a study that shows that social media addiction such as facebook is like the same addiction to that cocaine addicts have. Young kids should be monitored in their internet usage. It is so easy now to see porn and other stuff on the internet.
Gamer. Writer. Reviewer. Carpe diem.
Your right, very easy to see porn :-(
Sad to say that porn is so easy to see nowadays on the internet. So my nephew few months ago (my nephew's is age is 9 years old), browsing a game that has a pornographic theme and also saw him a browsing a website that has a lot of sexual implicit themes (clue: gag in the the name). I told him not to browse those kinds of things and told his parents about that.
Yeah, there is no way to stop kids from watching those kinds of videos.
Parents should install a software in their computer to monitor what kind of websites their child/children are looking at. Also, have the computer in a family room where everyone pass by or see the computer to monitor their activity as well.
Yes, some kind of software would be a great way to prevent this. Your second point is valid but I think we are now at that stage where people have many devices that connect to the internet in their household, so the family computer would most likely not be the only computer in the household.
