Friday Rock Recs: Bleeker – "Free"

by Brian Shea on Jul 08, 2016 at 10:00 AM

While most of the Friday Rock Recs to this point have examined bands I've followed for a long time, this time around I wanted to look at a group that's very new to me. I found Bleeker through iTunes' "New Artist Spotlight," which was showcasing the lead track, "Highway" off the band's eponymous EP. I was hooked and bought the five-track EP immediately.

I don't have the long anecdotes that I've had with other bands in my Friday Rock Recs feature, but I did feel an immediate connection with the band's fun blend of hard, classic, and glam rock. The pop sensibilities of the band are evident, but it doesn't come at the cost of songwriting or musicianship. Instead, the EP is a fun romp through five eclectic songs. My favorite track off the EP is probably the heartbreaking "I'm Not Laughing Now," but I want to highlight the upbeat side of this band with my pick for this week.

I love each track on the Bleeker EP, and the band tells me that they'll have a full LP this fall. In the meantime, check out one of my favorite tracks on the self-titled EP, "Free."
