Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Game Coming From Pokemon GO Developers Niantic

by Imran Khan on Nov 08, 2017 at 02:56 PM

Niantic has officially confirmed that their next project is an augmented reality mobile game based on J.K. Rowling's cultural touchstone Wizarding World.

Details are scarce, but Niantic says that the game will "allow players to go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters as they explore real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe." It seems likely that the game will be similar the developer's previous games, Ingress and Pokemon GO.

“At Niantic, our goal is to leverage technology to create real world experiences that help people to discover the wonderful, and often magical parts of the world around them,” said Niantic CEO John Hanke. “The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches.”

You can find the website for the game right here. While no release information was given, Niantic has said they will share additional details in 2018.

Our Take
Harry Potter seems like a good fit for Niantic's style of augmented reality gaming. This is good news for Niantic, who seems to find themselves at the center of the biggest properties in the world.
