Rumored Titles For Star Wars: Episode VIII

by Andrew Reiner on Dec 12, 2016 at 10:28 AM

Update: Filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII concluded this summer, and we should be seeing a teaser early in the new year, accompanied with a title. The latest rumor for the name comes from a trademark filing through the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The name filed is Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. As AVS Forum points out, the filing is for an extensive list of retail items, such as coin purses, pencils, action figures, and more.

I think it's a weak title, but it does perhaps point to Lucasfilm trying to link this new trilogy through the word "Force." So there would be the Prequel trilogy, Original trilogy, and Force Trilogy. As always, give us your two cents on the title in the comments section below.

Original Story: Filming is officially underway for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII. Fans are flocking to the internet with rumors and photos from the film's sets. Most of these rumors won't be verifiable until the film hits theaters on December 17, 2017, and they should all be taken with a huge grain of salt at this point, but it is fun to discuss them and see what people are learning and thinking. Moreover, pertaining specifically to the name of the film, it'll be fun to see who was the first (or closest) to getting it right.

Within the last 24 hours we've seen two different titles for Episode VIII. The first supposedly comes from leaked promotional materials appearing on Reddit. The title on the reported promotional poster is Star Wars: Tale of the Jedi Temple. The Reddit post says it is being prepped for a May 4 (Star Wars Day) reveal.

The second name to make the rounds is tied to Episode VIII's filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Star Wars news site MOS Croatia claims the movie is called Star Wars: The Order of the Dark Side, but no context for where the name came from was given.

Films often have working titles well into development. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was almost Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire.
