Nightdive Studios, a development studio behind the digital re-releases of titles such as Tarok and the original two System Shock games, has reached its Kickstarter funding goal of $900,000 for the upcoming System Shock remake of the 1994 game.

There's still 19 days to go until the campaign finishes, and Nightdive Studios has already surpassed its hefty goal. The success of the campaign was imminent early on, with over $450,000 already raised when it reached the 24 hour mark. Now, it nears $1 million. A demo was released alongside the Kickstarter campaign, which most likely helped in its success. Additionally, a new $100 tier reward has been added as of a couple days ago, which offers an exclusive 200-page art book to eligible backers.

The System Shock remake has no official release date yet, but it is slated to launch on Xbox One and PC, with Mac and Linux versions underway if the first stretch goal of $1.1 million is reached.

Our Take
Kickstarters aren't always a wise investment for backers, but Nightdive Studios was smart in releasing a pre-alpha demo, and the campaign's reward tiers have sounded promising. The developer's history with digitally re-releasing the original System Shock games helps them gain credibility, too. I'm curious to see how this remake pans out.
