Splatoon Is Nintendo’s Latest 1 Million-Seller

by Mike Futter on Jun 24, 2015 at 02:51 AM

The internet is awash in ink, as Nintendo has announced that its colorful shooter, Splatoon, has hit a sales milestone. Over 1 million copies of the title have been sold worldwide.

In the United states, 476,000 copies of the game have enabled Wii U players to be a kid now and then a squid now. Japan also loves the game, with 368,000 units sold there. Europe sneaks in behind with 230,000 copies.

Nintendo continues to roll out DLC weapons and maps, most of which seems to be on the disc, locked away behind a timer. The most recent, the Luna Blaster, was made available last night.

Our Take
Splatoon was one of the big surprises of E3 2014, and despite its problems has won over gamers young and old. Nintendo could have used a game like this in its arsenal at this year’s show.
