Clear Your Hard Drives, Elder Scrolls Online Beta Coming To Console Tomorrow

by Jeff Cork on Apr 22, 2015 at 07:07 AM

ZeniMax Online Studios has revealed details about the console beta for The Elder Scrolls Online, which starts tomorrow. If you applied for an invite, be sure to check your email. You'll probably want to set aside time to clear some space on your hard drive, too, since this is one heck of a download.

Invites for the Xbox One and PlayStation beta are going out today, and it begins at 10 a.m. Eastern tomorrow. The test ends Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern, too, so you'll have a weekend to explore to your heart's content. Your progress won't carry over to the live servers when it's released on June 9, so you may want to save a bit for later.

Players who get into the beta will have free rein over the entirety of the game's world. It's a big place, and it takes a big chunk of space on your console, too. According to the studio, the game's client is larger than a 50 GB Blu-ray disc, so when the game goes live players will have to download a day-one patch that's approximately 15 GBs. Just to be safe, you should probably make sure you have 65 GBs free.

Our Take
Woof. That is one huge download. The developers recommend starting the download process as soon as possible, which sounds like a smart plan. At  best, it's going to take most users a while to get the file, and that's assuming everything goes well. Good luck.
