Gone Home For Consoles No Longer 'Actively In Development'

by Matthew Kato on Mar 04, 2015 at 04:17 AM

The co-founder of Gone Home developer Fullbright has explained that the game's console versions is no longer being "actively" developed.

Steve Gaynor, writer and designer of Gone Home and co-founder of developer Fullbright, said on Kinda Funny Games' Colin and Greg show (around the 7:40 mark) "At this point, unfortunately I have to acknowledge that Gone Home for console is not actively in development any longer."

"That deal with Majesco has sadly come to an end, so we don't really know what that means for Gone Home console..." he explained. Last year it was reported that Majesco and its Midnight City label were in trouble.

Gaynor said that the company is focused on its next game, Tacoma. He didn't rule out the game hitting consoles at some point, but it's not happening in the near term.

Our Take
Unfortunate news, but if there's a silver lining here, it's that this situation may garner publicity so that another company swoops in and sees the advantage of publishing this lauded title on consoles. In Futter's talk last year with Gaynor, he expressed concern that if they turned to a big company for publishing that the game might get "lost in the shuffle." If a big company inquires about putting out Gone Home on consoles this time around, hopefully his fears do not come true.
