Improving The Master Chief Collection Remains ‘Top Priority’ For Halo Team

by Mike Futter on Feb 02, 2015 at 04:39 AM

Another Halo: The Master Chief Collection update is in the works. This time out, 343 Industries is planning to address three key areas that have been problematic since the game’s November 2014 launch.

The studio targets matchmaking search time, match search success, and lobby/party functionality as the three areas of focus. Also on the docket is “title-specific hit registration” along with matchmaking ranking.

343 recently announced a beta program for the update (something we’ve seen implemented in other titles that stumbled out the door). In addition to feature fixes, the Halo team is also making changes to playlists.

In the near future, you can expect to see Team Snipers and an objective-only playlist added. The Halo 2 Anniversary Rumble playlist will be converted to a cross-game Rumble Pit hopper.

Team Doubles, something fans have been eagerly awaiting, isn’t happening quite yet. There are “team creation issues” that need to be resolved before deployment, and it’s currently “on hold.”

Our Take
It’s a true shame that matchmaking issues continue to drag The Master Chief Collection down. As I’ve said before, these mistakes simply can’t be present when Halo 5: Guardians launches this fall. Microsoft needs the game to be perfect.
