Better Gear Up, Guardian. High Level Destiny Events Are Coming Soon

by Mike Futter on Sep 12, 2014 at 04:10 AM

Today kicks off the first of Bungie’s timed events for Destiny, with more planned over the coming weeks. If you’ve completed the story and have been polishing your skills in the crucible, you’ll soon have new objectives to pursue.

From September 12 through 14, Bungie has a special weekend crucible playlist planned. Small and medium-sized salvage maps will award crucible gear, marks, and reputation.

Next week, the first co-op event begins, and you’ll want to spend time leveling to be ready. Vault of Glass is a level 26 raid that will open on September 16. The rewards include raid gear and ascendant materials.

Later in September, Bungie will be offering events called Combined Arms and Queen’s Wrath. Based on the accompanying images, these seem like more weekend playlists.

Finally, in October, Iron Banner makes its first retail debut. Those who participated in the beta will recall that this is a multiplayer mode that takes into account your gear (rather than balancing things out and focusing exclusively on player skill).

Bungie also says that more surprises are coming, including visitors to the Tower and some changes to public event timing. The studio will also be doling out some of its own bounties.

Our Take
Destiny’s value isn’t going to be proved in the first few days after release. Bungie and Activision have an extended plan for the game, and I’m more interested in seeing how the experience grows and changes. Some of what the studio is talking about has the MMO vibe we expected, and bringing the community together around those events is crucial for longevity.
