Report: Dead Rising Movie Gets A Director

by Kyle Hilliard on Aug 23, 2014 at 09:13 AM

The Dead Rising movie, which was revealed to be in the works earlier this summer, has a director.

News of the director comes from The Wrap which points to Zach Lipovsky as being in charge of the movie adaptation of Capcom's other zombie series. Lipovsky directed the film Leprechaun: Origins, but doesn't have anything else particularly noteworthy or well-known to his name. The Dead Rising film has a bit of a strange trajectory as it is set to premiere on Crackle, the online web video and film website, before receiving a traditional on-demand and physical release.

The film will be produced by Tim Carter and Tomas Harlan, who were involved with the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and executive produced by Di Bonaventura, who is involved with The Transformers series of films.

Our Take
There are some video game movie projects I am optimistic about and looking forward to, like Duncan Jones' World of Warcraft movie, but this one seems like it will have more in common with the work of Uwe Boll – a quick cash-in based on a known license. I would be happy to be proven wrong. I think there is the potential for a funny zombie movie based on Dead Rising, but I just don't know if this will produce it.
