Tecmo Koei And Nintendo To Co-Develop Fatal Frame Title For Wii U

by Mike Futter on Apr 22, 2014 at 03:24 AM

Tecmo Koei and Nintendo have announced a team-up that will result in a new Fatal Frame title for the Wii U. In addition to a new game in the “zero” series (as its known in Japan), the pair will explore transmedia opportunities, including movies and books.

A horror movie planned for fall 2014 release is under development from Kadokawa, Inc. Comics and a novel are also planned.

The Fatal Frame series has players hunting ghosts with the aid of a camera. Very little is known about the new game, including whether it will be released outside of Japan. No release date or title has been announced.

Our Take
Nintendo seems to be growing its relationship with Tecmo Koei. The first Wii U collaboration, a title currently known as Hyrule Warriors, may be released this year. We’ll have a better sense of that at E3.

The most recent Fatal Frame title was developed exclusively for the Wii and was not released in North America. It might be best not to get hopes up that this will come stateside either.
