Upcoming Battlefield 4 Naval Strike DLC Reimagines Fan Favorite Mode

by Mike Futter on Feb 13, 2014 at 07:17 AM

Battlefield 2142 players will remember a mode called Titan. In this game type, teams have an unlimited number of spawn tickets and race to control missile silos that will destroy the opposing team’s warship.

This gameplay will return in Battlefield 4 with the Naval Strike DLC. The new name, Carrier Assault, is a modern-day envisioning of the gameplay.

The pack will also come with four maps: Lost Islands, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker, and Operation Mortar. As you might expect from the name, this DLC features a focus on amphibious action.

In addition to the maps, buyers will get five new weapons, a new hovercraft, a grenade launcher for the assault class, and the anti-heli mine for the engineer. There are also ten new in-game assignments with their own unlocks.

Premium members get a two-week head start on Battlefield 4 DLC. No release date (or window for that matter) have been announced. EA just today announced the release date for Second Assault on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Our Take
I missed out on Battlefield 2142, but reading up on the Titan mode for this story makes me interested in trying Carrier Assault. DICE is smart to focus on the bigger game types, because that is where Battlefield shines. From a perception point of view, the more distance EA puts between its game and Call of Duty, the better off everyone is. The games have different strengths, and Battlefield is more fun when it's doing its own thing.
