Tenkai Knights: Brave Battle Arrives On Nintendo 3DS This Summer

by Shin Hieftje on Jan 30, 2014 at 11:33 AM

Tenkai Knights, an animated Cartoon Network TV show based around fighting robots, will be getting its own 3DS game, courtesy of Bandai Namco. Players will fight in 2D robot battles either in a mission based single player story mode or in a competitive Versus mode supporting up to four players.

Tenkai Knights: Brave Battle allows players to customize the parts of their robots, enter various unit modes to support allies in battle, and modify their battle styles to exploit their enemy’s weaknesses. The story of Tenkai Knights: Brave Battle involves the people of Quarton trying to protect their planet’s most valuable resource, Tenkai Energy, from a villain known as Villius and his army of Corrupted.

Tenkai Knights is also a toy line by Spin Master, featuring construction bricks that form the titular robots. Tenkai Knights: Brave Battle will release this summer in North America.

Our Take
The Tenkai Knights toy line has specialized "shapeshifting" bricks that let players deconstruct their robot back into a brick, and then add new bricks to form new creations such as spaceships, beast modes, or titan sized robots. Shapeshifting to the most effective creation mid battle could an exciting gameplay mechanic for a fighting game, and would add an intriguing strategic element to the combat. However, if the combat remains simplistic and doesn't take enough advantage of the unique features of the toys, I expect the appeal of Brave Battle to be limited to young kids.
