Reader Discussion: Do You Collect Special Edition Accessories?

by Joe Juba on Jan 15, 2014 at 08:27 AM

Earlier today, Microsoft revealed its Xbox One Titanfall controller. It's a slick-looking piece of equipment, as are many special edition accessories. But is that enough to inspire you to purchase special edition gear?

Companies use these unique designs to promote an upcoming release – like Titanfall or Lightning Returns (pictured above). But does it work? For some games, things like controllers and headsets are simply tools that allow them to interact with games. For others, they are collectible items to be hoarded and displayed – so the rarer and more elaborate, the better.

Where do you fall on the spectrum? Do you ever buy these special edition accessories? Does it depend on the game or design? Do you stick to the standard models no matter what? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
