Planetside 2 Arrives On PlayStation 4 Early Next Year

by Mike Futter on Oct 31, 2013 at 03:23 AM

Sony has just updated its list of PlayStation 4 launch titles to include DC Universe Online (you can see the full list here). We’ve also learned that another free-to-play game from Sony Online will be landing early next year.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Sony Online Entertainment head John Smedley states that Planetside 2 is on track for an early 2014 release. Sony has touted a number of free-to-play titles for the PlayStation 4, two of which will be available at launch (as of now).

In addition to the DC Comics-themed MMO, Digital Extremes is set to roll out Warframe on November 15. We also know that Blacklight: Retribution from Zombie Studios and War Thunder from Gaijin Entertainment are slated for launch on the PlayStation 4.

Our Take
Planetside 2 could be a huge win for Sony. It has a faithful player base on PC (though the two communities will be separate), and it supports enormous battles, the scope of which have not before been seen on console. Additionally, Sony is hoping to capitalize on a broader base of users by keeping free titles in front of the PlayStation Plus paywall. I’m eager to play Planetside 2 and see what all the fuss is about.
