Valve Files Half-Life 3 Trademark

by Matt Helgeson on Oct 01, 2013 at 08:55 AM

Forget the weird controller, here's the Valve news we've been waiting for.

NeoGAF posters Shinobi602 and Rosti spotted the filing on the Trade Marks and Designs Registrations Office of the European Union website. While we can't link directly, you can go to this page and enter 012180394 into the search field to see it for yourself. We've also included it below.

The filing is for a trademark on "Half-Life 3" under two classifications: "Computer game software; Electronic game software; Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; Video game software" and "Provision of on-line entertainment; provision of computer and video games and computer and video game programmes from a computer database or via the Internet."

This is potentially exciting news for gamers around the world. Wonder if it will be a Steam Box exclusive?

Our Take:
Now, for the usual caveats: companies file for trademarks for many reasons, sometimes just to make sure they have control of an IP for any future plans. So, this doesn't necessarily mean that Half-Life 3 is coming. Still, let's just agree to be happy for now. Valve knows that there's a vocal audience out there that wants Half-Life 3; I hope this means they are listening.
