by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 20, 2013 at 04:51 AM

During Gearbox's panel at PAX Australia, the studio announced plans to remake Homeworld and its sequel and release them on Steam.

Gearbox acquired the rights to the Homeworld series when THQ auctioned off the rights to all of its franchises and licenses. According to Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, his was the only developer that made a bid on the Homeworld series.

No release date has been unveiled, but Gearbox did confirm that players who purchase its updated versions of the game on Steam will also get digital copies of the original versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2.

Our Take
Even if you're a PC purist who is not a fan of remakes, this is good news for fans of Homeworld. Including the original versions of the game is a nice added bonus.
