PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD Coming To PlayStation Vita This Month

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 17, 2013 at 04:29 AM

PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD is coming to the PlayStation Vita at the end of this month with new visuals, updated controls that take advantage of the touch-screen, and the same difficulty.

It will be $14.99, and it will be available on July 30. This remake is being handled by Double Eleven, but the studio worked closely with the original developer, Q-Games. The Ultimate HD version of the game will include the extra towers, enemies, and levels from the PSP version of the game, as well as the Encore expansion.

When Double Eleven started building the game, it had some ideas to make the game easier, but Q-Games wanted to keep the game's original difficulty intact, so this is strictly a visual upgrade.

Our Take
Given the choice, I would have liked to see the game balanced to be a little easier, but that's only because I struggled so much with PixelJunk Monsters. I only made it past the first few levels. Also, I think this may be the first HD remake of a game that was already in HD when in released on PlayStation 3 in 2008. I guess the Vita version is a double-HD remake.
